OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City Councilman Skip Kelly publicly apologized this morning after being arrested on a DUI complaint last week.
The Ward 7 representative said he was sorry to his constituents and to his fellow elected leaders for the incident that has put him the embarrassing position of "being seen as a defendant."
Early last Thursday morning, Kelly was arrested on a DUI complaint. He declined to take a breathalyzer test. In offering his apology during today's City Council meeting, he declined to refer to any specific details of the arrest, but characterized it as one of the lowest points in his life.
Kelly thanked his colleagues for their support and assured them he would overcome and work harder to do the job voters elected him to do.
Kelly was first elected in December 2007 to fill Willa Johnson's unexpired term. He ran unopposed in election's last month.
