OKLAHOMA CITY – A $6,000 reward is now being offered by the local bicycling community to anyone who can help catch the driver who hit and killed a fellow bicyclist last month.

Alan Spencer was killed July 17 while riding his bike in Oklahoma City on Midwest Boulevard. Police say the circumstances are suspicious because the driver had an unobstructed view and should have been able to see Spencer.

According to Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Gary Knight, very rarely is a bicycle wreck turned over to the homicide division, however elements were present that made it prudent to do so.

The day following Alan Spencer's death, bicyclist Clyde Riggs was also struck and killed by a car while he was riding in the 5100 block of E. Britton Road. That motorist stopped, and no charges were filed.

Four days later, a memorial ride for the two cyclists was held and 400 cyclists participated in the dedication of two "ghost bikes" in their honor.

The Spencer family is thankful that the cycling community has offered this reward, and is hopeful that it will encourage people to come forward with information.

The reward money is being offered for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the hit and run driver. Anyone with information can call the homicide tip line at 405-297-1200.
