OKLAHOMA CITY -- Dozens gathered to protest at the city's Civic Center where a Satanic group held a ritual Thursday night.
All the chanting, people and emotions were expected after the Church of Four Kings Princes announced it would be holding a satanic exorcism just a week before Halloween inside Oklahoma City's Civic Center.
"We actually believe it's about time that Satanism stops being underground," Jamie Cox with Church of Four Kings Princes said when asked why the ritual was held in such a public location.
With a heavy police presence nearby, most Christians voiced their strong opposition to the event.
"I really think it's sad because I think people are falling victim to Satan, and they need to be rescued because Jesus loves them anyway," said protestor Ashley Barnett.
Other Christians said while they don't agree with what's happening inside the Civic Center, they believe the group had the right to do it.
"I'm glad that they can because their right to assemble is my right to assemble," said Alan Maricle of Norman.
P.J. Creepers said he was glad the group hosted the event, and he thought Satanism is the way to go, at least for himself.
"It's about time. It's awesome because Oklahoma needs this -- exorcisms in the Bible belt. We need a change. We need another voice heard other than these ramblings," Creepers said.
Those who attended Thursday night's ritual were ushered through the back of the building. At no time did the protestors and those attending ever clash and no arrests were made.
A spokesperson for the city said the group was allowed to host its event at the civic center because the city's policy is to not discriminate against any group as long as all fees are paid and no laws are broken.
