OKC Home Invasion Terrorizes Couple, 2 Children

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City police are investigating a home invasion and robbery near N.W. 13th Street and N. Shawnee Avenue that happened early Tuesday morning.

Police said two men, possibly three, broke into the home and terrorized a couple and two small children. Jamie Wyrick told police the men broke the glass in a back door and rushed into a bedroom where she and her 2-year-old twins were sleeping.

Police said the men bound her hands behind her back with zip ties and used duct tape to bind her boyfriend. The male victim was then beaten by the suspects, who demanded drugs and cash from the couple and spent 30 minutes ransacking the house. Wyrick said she feared the men would kill her in front of her children. She also said the suspects kept telling her they would not harm the kids.

When the suspects finally left, they stole the couple's truck, a 2004 white Ford 150, regular cab. The vehicle has dealer tags on it and the word "heritage" is on the back under Ford 150.

Wyrick said the robbers left the back door open when they left. Although her hands were still bound, she and one of her children were able to get to a neighbor's house and ask for help.

Crime scene investigators were called to the scene to take pictures and collect evidence. Police said since duct tape was used, one of the suspects may have left DNA evidence behind.

The woman's boyfriend was taken to a local hospital for treatment but is expected to be OK.

Sixty-eight-year-old Nita Havlik lives two doors down and has lived in this neighborhood for 13 years.

"It has been one of the safer neighborhoods I've ever lived in," Havlik said.

But Havlik admitted thieves broke into her house two years ago, while she and her husband were out grocery shopping.

"It's not something that's happening constantly. I hope it doesn't get constant either," Havlik said.

The couple had only moved into this house a few months back and were considered nice and quiet by their neighbors, but Havlik said that house itself has seen its fair share of trouble in the past.

"This will be the second family that's lived in the house since the trouble, but the people that were involved in the trouble have been long gone," Havlik said.
