EDMOND, Oklahoma – An 18-year-old student is facing a felony charge of aggravated assault and battery after a fight at Edmond Memorial High School Friday.

Edmond police received a call of an assault on a student at the school before noon. The incident happened in the boy's bathroom between two male students.

According to the arresting officer, Shakil Fields was in the restroom when he allegedly heard someone using a racial slur. Fields demanded to know who was saying it, and when a student used the slur again, Fields allegedly began assaulting the student, hitting and kicking him.

The victim, a 15-year-old, was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Fields ran from the school to a nearby apartment complex where he was taken into custody by police.
