OKLAHOMA CITY -- U.S. Marshals found a vehicle in Bexar County, Texas, belonging to a lifetime registered sex offender wanted in Oklahoma.

Matthew Mallory is on the run with his 14-year-old niece, Ariel Mallory. The two left their Okarche home on Wednesday, April 6 after the Kingfisher County District Attorney got an emergency order to remove an infant and young child from the home.

Surveillance video captured Matthew and Ariel at a San Antonio Wal-Mart Sunday afternoon around 1 p.m. reportedly looking for makeup. A witness told investigators Ariel appeared to be a bit sunburned.

Monday morning, U.S. Marshal's found Mallory's Ford Taurus in a rural area in Bexar County in southeast Texas. The car was found under a bridge with the keys still in it along with food from a nearby convenience store.

"That's why we believe he may still be in the area here," said Lt. Dennis Casillas of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy discovered the car and ran the Florida plates and found out they were stolen.   He then checked the VIN number and it was registered to Mallory, a registered sex offender with a long criminal record.

Investigators believe Mallory and his niece had been camping in the area for a few days, but abandoned the campsite.

Marshals don't believe the two have transportation and are likely traveling by foot. Deputies have found some abandoned clothes and it appears the two may have crossed a river.

"We do have a set of footprints that are westbound from the campsite down there and some wet clothing that looks like it was hung there to dry," Casillas said.

Authorities said Matthew is a survivalist and known for violent confrontations so they've been telling farmers and ranchers in the area to be on the lookout for him and the girl.

Authorities have launched a massive manhunt in the area. Lawmen are searching the ground on foot while helicopters are searching by air.

An arrest warrant has been filed for Mallory for child abandonment of a child under 10 and failure to register as a sex offender.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation at 1-800-522-8017.
