Confessed Home Invader Released, Sought By Police

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A man wanted for his part in a terrifying home invasion last February was let of jail even though he confessed to the crime and is now threatening to hurt another family.

Police arrested Derrick Lamont Miles last month and hauled him off to jail after they found a gun inside his truck.

It turns out the gun was the same one that was taken during a home invasion in northwest Oklahoma City in February.

Court records show officers received a home invasion robbery call to the 4000 block of NW 13th St. on Feb. 15. The male victim was beaten, duct taped and zip tied inside the house and his wife was tied up.

The suspects took televisions, computers, jewelry, keys, debit cards, a gun, and the couple's white Ford pickup truck.

According to the arrest warrant filed in court Friday, Miles confessed to participating in the home invasion robbery, confessed to entering the house while the victims were home, and that they were bound by zip ties. He also confessed to taking property from the residence including the gun that was found in his Tahoe.

Despite that confession, and the violence of the crime, Miles was released from jail Tuesday because the district attorney had not filed any charges yet.
