Man Allegedly Responsible For Deadly Drug Party Appears In Court

ADA, Oklahoma -- The man authorities feel was responsible for a weekend party in Konawa that left one person dead and several others in the hospital appeared in court Monday.

Twenty-two-year-old Stacy Jewell died from an apparent overdose of a hallucinogenic drug purchased over the Internet.

After studying the affidavit, the judge ordered Cody Weddle, 20, held without bond. The "2C-E" that Weddle admitted he procured is not an illegal substance in Oklahoma. However, the Pontotoc County District Attorney said that doesn't really matter.

"Oklahoma law makes it illegal to possess or distribute any substance which is not banned but which mimics the psychological or physiological effects of a banned substance," said Pontotoc County District Attorney Chris Ross.

Of the seven people hospitalized after the party, four have now been released. However, Andrew Akerman remains in critical condition, Garrett Minitre is listed in serious condition, and Erik Michelsen Jr. is now in good condition.

The D.A. said it is possible more people could be charged in the case.
