MIDWEST CITY -- Colleagues of Major John Waldenville have organized an event to help pay for the injured deputy's medical bills.
Major Waldenville is still being treated in the intensive care unit after being shot in the head. Major Waldenville worked as a security officer at Cattlemen's Steakhouse. Oklahoma City police say on Saturday, May 21, while he was carrying money from the restaurant to deposit at a bank, two men ran up to Major Waldenville and pulled out a gun. One of the men shot him and both ran away.
Police have arrested two people for the shooting; 18-year-old Keonta Prince and 29-year-old Christopher Baker.
Friends say Major Waldenville has a long recovery ahead of him, both physically and financially. They hope the fundraiser will ease some of the family's financial worries.
The "Tip A Cop" benefit is scheduled for tonight (Tuesday, June 7) at Old Chicago Restaurant at 7301 S.E. 29th Street in Midwest City. The event begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. Deputies will wait on customers, and all tips will go to Major Waldenville.
