OKLAHOMA CITY -- A metro family is seeking answers to what happened to their dog at a metro PetsMart store.
Markus Smith said he dropped off his 2-year-old black lab mix, McGee, to the store Saturday morning for a routine grooming. When he picked up his dog later, he says her eyes were blood red and swollen so bad they were protruding out of the sockets.
Smith said the employees and the store's veterinarian told him they did not know what happened, but possibly the dog pulled on her leash too hard.
Smith took McGee to a local veterinarian clinic for a second opinion. The vet told him, it appeared there was trauma to the eyes possibly caused by strangulation.
PetsMart has agreed to pay all the vet bills and reimburse the owner the grooming fee. The store also told Smith, it will conduct an internal investigation.
