NICHOLS HILLS, Oklahoma. -- People in both Mustang and Nichols Hills have expressed a wide-range of reactions about the arrest of the wife of slain Nichols Hills Fire Chief Keith Bryan. Those close to the family said they were shocked, while others had different thoughts.
As soon as the news broke it was hard to find anyone who did not have something to say about the arrest.
"Today, at 12:20 p.m., detectives of the Mustang Police Department and agents of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation arrested Rebecca Louise Bryan," said Mustang Police Chief Chuck Foley.
As soon as police made their announcement, the public made its.
"I am surprised," said one Nichols Hills-area resident. "It usually ends up being the wife."
Other residents told News 9 some things did not add up about the wife's story. Others expressed sadness over the ordeal the Bryan family now faces with Keith Bryan dead and Rebecca Bryan behind bars.
At the Nichols Hills Fire Department, the American flag waved at half staff as firefighters continued to grieve the loss of their leader. Those at the fire department were too distraught to talk on camera Friday.
Back in Mustang, a neighbor was left in shock. Patricia Hilbern, who lives near the Bryan home, has known the family for more than three decades.
"I just cried when I heard it," said Hilbern. "It's not the Becky I knew. I said, ‘oh no, it can't be our Keith and our Becky.'"
Hilbern will be playing the piano at Chief Bryan's funeral Saturday. She said rather than thinking of the tragedy, she will try to think about all of the good memories she has of Bryan.
The service for Bryan is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. at The Bridge Assembly of God in Mustang.
