Guthrie Rolls Past Deer Creek To Stay Perfect

EDMOND, Oklahoma – The Guthrie Bluejays and Deer Creek Antlers each entered Friday undefeated, but Guthrie continued its dominance to start the season with a 35-7 blowout.

Deer Creek (3-1, 0-1) won the game's opening coin toss and elected to kick, and chose to start the night with a deep onside kick. But the plan backfired when Guthrie (4-0, 1-0) recovered it, and drove the ball for a touchdown on the ensuing drive.

The Guthrie defense was suffocating and never allowed the Antlers to get into a rhythm. As result, the Bluejays dominated field position to start the game and easily turned that into a second touchdown to end the first quarter leading 14-0.

Deer Creek finally managed to break through with a 49-yard touchdown pass from Joel Blumenthal to Jared Rayburn to cut the lead to seven. But that was the closest the Antlers came for the rest of the night.

The Bluejays gradually pulled away for the rest of the night. They scored a touchdown in the second quarter to carry a 21-7 lead into halftime, and scored another one in each of the third and fourth quarters to seal the victory.

Guthrie still has not been challenged yet this season. It remains undefeated through four games and has beaten its opponents by a combined score of 148-14. The Bluejays will host Ada next week, while Deer Creek will face Southeast.
