The Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism has received a $2.2 million police training grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The grant allows the institute to continue offering law enforcement courses known as Information Collection on Patrol to the nation's 800,000 officers.

The course highlights the value of information collection and proper reporting. Training is conducted primarily at the institute, which overlooks the Oklahoma City National Memorial.

Director David Cid says the grant will bring the training program to tens of thousands of police officers across the nation.

Cid says the training gives line officers skills that enhance security and safety.

From July 2010 to September 2011, the institute trained officers in 68 agencies, including the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office and the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police.
