EMSA Paramedic Charged In Deadly OKC Crash Pleads Not Guilty

An EMSA paramedic charged with negligent homicide following a deadly crash has turned himself in.

An attorney for Benjamin Samples said the paramedic turned himself in to police Thursday morning and was released on $2,000 bond.

Samples was arraigned on a negligent homicide charge at 1:30 p.m. Thursday and entered a plea of not guilty.

Samples was responding to an emergency call on December 10 when he crashed his ambulance into another car. The driver of that car, Fidel Mesa-Solis, died.

According to investigators, Samples was driving on Northwest 10th Street coming up on May Avenue when he crossed a double yellow line and collided with Mesa-Solis' car. Samples attorney says the crash was an accident.

Samples next court date is January 18.
