More than a dozen rural fire departments were battling a major grass fire Tuesday afternoon in rural Rogers County, north and west of Chelsea.

Chelsea Fire's chief told News On 6, 300 acres have already burned and firefighters continued to battle the wind all afternoon on County Road EW 300 between NS 429 and NS 430.

One vacant trailer burned and at least five other structures were in danger of catching fire.

15 rural fire departments were fighting this fire.

The Red Cross has set up a canteen to provide firefighters with hydrating beverages as well as energy-sustaining snacks and meals.

News On 6 Chief Meteorologist Travis Meyer says gusts could hit 50 miles per hour Tuesday afternoon.  He says winds will be a problem through Wednesday, but there's a good chance of soaking rain Wednesday night and Thursday.
