Oklahoma City police allowed people back into their homes after they were forced out when a live grenade was found in their neighborhood.

A man preparing for a yard sale found the grenade Friday afternoon in his backyard in the 3900 block of S.W. 23rd Street near Portland. He called police, who in turn called the bomb squad.

The bomb squad looked at the grenade, determined it was from World War II, still live and possibly dangerous. Police blocked off streets and evacuated houses while the bomb squad determined what to do with the device.

The bomb squad eventually took the grenade away to dispose of it. People were allowed back into their homes around 4 p.m.
