After nearly 31 years (30 years and nine months, to be exact), Ed Murray signed off of News 9 for the final time Sunday night.
Ed first joined the News 9 family as a sports reporter in 1981. During his tenure, he moved from the sports desk to the news desk, bringing integrity, balance and high standards to his reporting. Ed is the first to admit he could be tough, but his colleagues knew his goal was always to present a better story to the viewers.
Ed recently decided to retire, saying goodbye to viewers during Sunday night's newscast. He was joined by his wife, four sons and daughter-in-law. He says he's loved bringing viewers memorable stories, and being a part of their daily lives.
"I want you to know it's my decision to leave. That's so important in this very tough business. To me, it's always been about people. I tried to be a fan in the locker room for you through all my years in sports. Most of all, I want to thank you for trusting me, and for inviting me into your home. "
Ed says the people here at News 9 are his second family, and we want him to know we feel the same. Ed, it's been a joy working with you. We will miss you, and we wish you and your family all the best. Enjoy your retirement, friend!
