Oklahoma State football announced Friday that running back Herschel Sims has been dismissed by the team.

According to the release, he was dismissed due to a violation of team rules, but no further details were released.

The sophomore from Abilene, Texas was one of the most sought after players in the 2011 recruiting class.

Last year as a freshman for the Cowboys he did not play the first four games, but saw time in the second half of the season on offense and special teams.

In 2011 he racked up 31 carries for 244 yards and two touchdowns as the No. 3 running back for the Cowboys. He was expected to fill a similar role this season behind Joseph Randle and Jeremy Smith.

In high school at Abilene he ran for 2,352 yards his junior year and 709 yards his senior season that was plagued by injuries.
