Near blackout conditions caused a multi-vehicle accident along I-35 in Kay County, near Blackwell.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, up to 30 cars were involved in that accident. It happened just after 1:00 p.m. Thursday after high winds created a dust bowl across the highway near the Oklahoma/Kansas border.
According to Blackwell Fire Chief Russell Brand, a total of 16 people were injured in these accidents, but miraculously none appeared to be serious.
The conditions caused I-35 southbound at State Highway 11 and I-35 northbound at U.S. 60 to close. The dust storm caused near blackout visibility.
