'Cancer Sucks' Concert Raises Money For Research

Oklahomans are trying to help cure cancer through music.

Cain's Ballroom hosted the eighth annual "Cancer Sucks Concert" on Sunday evening.

Five bands took the stage with every single penny raised going to cancer research.

Rick Horton started "Cancer Sucks" after losing his mother to the disease.

He wanted his charity to be different from those $500-a-plate dinners.

The concert -- which featured bands Saving Abel, Texas Hippie Coalition, Aranda, Sweating Bullets and Firstryke -- was open to anyone for a $12 donation.

"We don't like the black-tie stuff as much," Horton said. "We like people to be comfortable and still be able to give to a cause they care about."

Since it was created, Cancer Sucks has raised more than half a million dollars for cancer research.
