A 26-year-old Dewey woman remains in the Washington County jail on charges of child abuse by injury and child neglect.

Nola Butler was arrested on July 9, after Dewey Police were called to investigate a call about a possible suicide attempt at her home on East 10th Street.

While in the home, police noticed dog feces on the floor, as well as food. In an affidavit filed with the court, the officer saw three children, ages 2, 3 and 7, eating off the floor next to the feces.

The police officer also found a 3-year-old boy in the home with bruises in the groin area. When questioned, according to the affidavit, Butler told the officer she had spanked him because he had flooded the home's bathroom.

The officer also stated in the affidavit that all three children were very dirty. He went on to say there was dirty standing water in the bathtub, a bathroom sink filled with dog food and the air conditioning in the home was not working.

Oklahoma Department of Human Services took all three children into protective custody.

Nola Butler waived her preliminary hearing on the charges in October and a Washington County judge this week set another hearing for January 2, 2013.

Her $250,000 bond stands.
