A Virginia-based wind energy company is defending a huge wind farm it's constructing, that will span northeast Canadian and Kingfisher Counties.

APEX Wind Energy just finished the first phase of the project, that will include as many as 400 wind turbines that are more than 400 feet tall.

APEX says the turbines are being erected on properties only in rural portions of the counties.  However, some residents are fighting it, because they say a wind farm will decrease property values.

APEX Spokesman Kent Dougherty says that is not true.

"If there's one group in the United States that has a bead on this it would be the National Association of Realtors, and they've never been able to come out and say wind facilities negatively harm property values," Dougherty said.

Apex Wind Energy says this new wind farm will bring two-million dollars in tax revenue each year to the Okarche School District.
