Rain, Sleet, Snow Fall Across Oklahoma

Drivers are dealing with a wet, snowy and slick commute Wednesday morning as a winter storm moves across the state.

News 9 Meteorologist Jed Castles says the central part of the state could see 1 to 4 inches of snow. The Panhandle and northern Oklahoma are expected to see the heaviest snowfall.

News 9 Storm Trackers fanned out to central, western and northern Oklahoma to monitor the weather and traffic. They spotted mixtures of rain and snow, and as the morning continued, driving conditions worsened, especially in the western part of the state.

Oklahoma City street crews began around-the-clock salt operations along the City's snow routes at midnight. They plan to work 12-hour shifts until the weather improves.

Crews in 12 trucks are currently treating slick spots along the city's snow routes, but a total of 33 trucks will hit the streets once snow begins to accumulate or ground temperatures dip below freezing. Crews will salt and or plow streets exclusively along City's snow routes.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol encouraged drivers to be careful, focus on the roadway, and drive slowly.

So far, the weather has not caused any delays at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City, but travelers are encouraged to call their airlines before leaving for the airport.

The heavy snow in some areas has also led some school districts to cancel classes for the day, or delay the start of school.

There are some reports of power outages in Piedmont and the metro. Crews from OG&E are working to get the power back on those customers.
