Two men are in custody after leaving the scene of a fiery crash involving four cars on I-44 at N.W. 10th around 10:15 p.m. Friday.
Three lanes of I-44 were closed as debris was being removed. No one was seriously injured.
Multiple vehicles were involved in an accident on Interstate 44 near the 10th St. exit. The accident occurred after one vehicle caught fire for an unknown reason. Once the driver of that vehicle realized his car was on fire, he slammed on the brakes, causing several other vehicles to crash into him.
Witnesses say the driver and his passenger got out of the car, but continued going back and forth to it to get unknown items out of the car. Some bystanders at the scene were yelling at them to get away from the car.
News 9's Michael Konopasek and photojournalist Michael Johnston witnessed the crash. Konopasek called 911 for help, then witnessed two men attempting to retrieve belongings from their burning car before they ran away from the scene.
Police later arrested the men near the Oklahoma State Fair Grounds. As of late Friday, OHP would not say if the men are suspected of any additional crimes besides leaving the scene of an accident.
