A teenager critically injured while car surfing is home from the hospital.

Luke Smith and a friend were car surfing when they flew off and collided with mailboxes in an Edmond neighborhood. Wednesday, Luke's parents wheeled him out of the Children's Center in Bethany. They say they've talked to their kids about drugs and alcohol but not car surfing.

"This was not something that was on our radar," said Shelley Smith, Luke's mother. "I mean I had heard the term car surfing before. When the officer showed up that night and told us that's what had happened, I knew what he was talking about but it was in passing. It was not anything I ever dreamed of having a conversation with my kids about."

Doctors say Luke is lucky to be alive. The other boy injured in the accident is at OU Medical Center. His mom tells police he opened his eyes for the first time earlier this week.
