A metro woman is facing a felony after police say she killed her own dog.
The suspect, 25-year-old Kristen Elyse Elliot, told police she was doing the dog a favor, according to court documents. Elliot then admitted to drowning the animal, police say.
Neighbors near Danforth and Santa Fe in Edmond say they rarely see police, so what happened over the weekend caught everyone off guard.
“I was very shocked because honestly I don’t know the people [who] live over there,” neighbor Kevin Windholz said. “I didn’t even know there were pets involved.”
Charges filed in Oklahoma County District Court Monday spell out the allegations against Elliot. The crime was committed at the home of Elliot’s parents, according to police. Her parents tell police their daughter is a paranoid schizophrenic who was convinced the family dog was being abused. To fix the problem, police say Elliot forced the dog under water and stashed the body in the backyard.
“When the officers went back there, they found a dog that was wrapped in a towel, and it was wet,” Officer James Hamm with Edmond Police said. “[It] had blood coming from its mouth.”
Family members were unavailable for comment Monday. Police say they found drug paraphernalia in Elliot's home. After Elliot was arrested, she stayed quiet and asked for a lawyer but spontaneously shouted that she drowned the dog, according to police.
Elliot has already bonded out of jail. If convicted, she could spend up to five years in prison.
