Right now, Midwest City police are not offering any public comment while they do a routine internal investigation into their use of deadly force.
But they did release this about the suspect. Midwest City police identify the man they shot as 37-year-old Sammie Lamont Wallace.

They say he is a wanted man out of Dallas Texas, but he had no criminal record here in Oklahoma. We checked and his criminal background shows he has been arrested for a string of felonies including aggravated assault, robbery with a deadly weapon and criminal trespass. He has also served time in a Texas Prison.
But we still don't know what brought Wallace here to Midwest City, or why he targeted that 2-year-old girl and her mother at the Walmart Neighborhood Market near E. Reno Avenue and Midwest Boulevard.
Midwest City Police state they responded to the Walmart around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon, and when they arrived Wallace was in the back of the store with a 2-year-old child he picked out of a shopping basket and threatened her life with a knife.
On Tuesday, it was business as usual at the Walmart Neighborhood Market, but shoppers are still in shock.
"I'm glad I wasn't here," said Penni Mashore, a regular at this particular Walmart Neighborhood Market. "I think it's a really sad situation for a lot of people, and I'm sure the officer did what he had to do."
No one at that Walmart Neighborhood Market would talk about the incident, instead they forwarded our requests to their corporate office.
We do not know if Wallace suffered from any mental health issues, but we are investigating.
