An elderly woman visited her husband's grave only to be mugged. This happened just a week after burying her husband at the Bethany Cemetery at 63rd and Rockwell.
Now the family is hoping a surveillance picture will lead to justice.
The woman and her husband had been married for more than 60 years, and she had gone to lay flowers on his grave. That's when her purse was stolen.
Now, she feels like a lot more than just her belongings have been taken from her.
"After 60 years, there's a lot of memories there. That should be a place that she should be able to go to and have peace and comfort. She'll tell you that's the closest she can get to him at this point," Greg Herndon said.
Greg Herndon knows his mother had found some comfort in her daily visits her late husband's grave.
That comfort was stolen last Thursday, when a man robbed in her broad daylight.
"You would think a cemetery should be safe. That's where we place our dead, to show respect," Herndon said.
Mrs. Herndon is afraid she'll be targeted again, so she told us off camera that as she was getting in her car, the man came up and violently pulled her purse off her shoulder.
Inside, she had quite a bit of money, her keys, and all of her personal information.
"With her driver's license, it has all the addresses. They know where she banks, they know where she shops. They had her Medicare card [and] her retirement card. All of that information is now in the public domain with someone she doesn't know," Herndon said.
Police say this man tried to use one of her credit cards at the Neighborhood Walmart on 23rd and Penn. This surveillance picture shows him leaving the store.
The Herndons hope someone will recognize him.
"When someone will go to that point and rob a little old lady at a fresh grave, what is it that they will not do?" Herndon said.
Investigators tell News 9 they're looking for two suspects, including the one in the picture. We're told they were driving a 4-door white sedan.
Anyone with information is asked to call Bethany Police (405)-789-2323.
