West Nile Virus (WNV) has claimed its first victim of the year in Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma State Department of Health confirmed Thursday an elderly woman between the ages of 70 and 79 died from the disease. She was from Oklahoma County, but her name has not been released.
In 2013, four people – all from Oklahoma County – have been hospitalized due to WNV. Last year, 15 people died from the virus; two of them in Oklahoma County.
