An Airman at Altus Air Force base has been arrested on allegations he stockpiled bomb-making materials, and threatened to use explosives at local businesses.

Senior Airman Timothy F. Carey is being held in the Jackson County jail. Witnesses told investigators Carey said he could use explosives at Walmart to "tie up" law enforcement and other city resources. They say he also threatened to use bombs at other places.

When state and federal agents searched a trailer home and storage unit belonging to Carey, they found bomb-making materials.

"I think we've stopped a serious threat here," Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy told KSWO in Lawton. "It may not have happened yesterday, but we very well could've stopped a threat that would've happened next week or next month. So I'm proud of everybody that was involved."
