A former Oklahoma lawmaker convicted of bribery wants a judge to let him remain free on bond while he appeals his conviction.

A hearing is set for Wednesday in Oklahoma City on the request from former Rep. Randy Terrill of Moore.

A 12-member jury convicted Terrill Tuesday evening of offering a bribe for withdrawal of candidacy. Prosecutors allege Terrill, a Republican, offered to put former Democratic state Sen. Debbe Leftwich in an $80,000-a-year job at the medical examiner's office if she would agree to not seek re-election in 2010 so that a Republican state representative could run for her open seat. Terrill had denied the allegations.

The jury recommended that Terrill be sentenced to one year in prison and fined $5,000. Formal sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 5.
