Next Friday is the 50-year anniversary of the assassination of America's 35th President John F. Kennedy. Enid native Jerry Kunkel was a 24-year-old disc jockey at a Dallas radio station when it happened.

Kunkel says his bosses sent him to Parkland Hospital, that's where the President had been rushed.

Kunkel says he got into the hospital because the staff thought he was a Secret Service Agent. He says a doctor who had just worked on Kennedy told him in a bathroom Kennedy was dead. After that Kunkel says he ran outside to a pay phone and called his bosses.

Kunkel's radio station KBOX reported Kennedys' death 16 minutes before any other media organization.

"So Kunkel was just a guy who was there," he told News 9 on Friday.

Steve: "You think it was one shooter?"

Kunkel: "Um hmm."

Steve: "You think it was Oswald?"

Kunkel: "Um hmm."

Steve: "Two shots?"

Kunkel: "Umm hmm."

Steve Shaw will have part two of his interview with Jerry Kunkel next Friday. He'll talk about how he knew Jack Ruby, and he'll talk about Lee Harvey Oswald.
