Edmond police say a 4-year-old child showed up at Cross Timbers Elementary school high on marijuana. Police say the boy was staying at his grandmother's home in Logan County. Now both she and the boy's great aunt are facing drug charges.
Neither of them answered the door when we came calling. But those who know them are shocked at the allegations.
"I'm just really surprised this happened," said Nancy Nolen, who lives next door.
Nolen says she has known the boy's paternal grandmother for 16 years and lives right next door to her Logan County home. A home that has kids toys all over the yard.
"They love that little boy like he's their own," Nolen said.
But Edmond police say when that little boy showed up to his afternoon Pre-K class at Cross Timbers Elementary school on Friday afternoon, his fellow classmates noticed something was very wrong.
And so did the responding officer.
"He went out and noticed his eyes were dilated, watery and he was very lethargic," said Edmond Police Department spokesperson Jenny Monroe. "And he also smelled of marijuana."
Edmond Police arrested both the boy's grandmother and his great aunt when they came to pick him up for school. They are identified as 53-year-old Sandra Martinez and 52-year-old Peggy Pierman.

"The grandmother did admit to our officers that she smoked in front of him before school while she was getting ready for school," Monroe said.
Edmond Police say the two also admitted to smoking marijuana before coming to pick up the boy from school.
Police say the 4-year-old does not live at his grandmother's home, but did spend the night there Thursday, because of the looming bad weather and since grandma's home is closer to the school than his own.
"Mom thought she was leaving her son with the Grandmother, you know, to be safe weather wise," Monroe said.
Now both friends and family are questioning that decision, in light of what reportedly happened on Friday.
Nancy Nolen for one is praying for her neighbor.
"I lost a son to drugs years ago," said Nolen. "And then to do it around a child is really not too smart."
Nolan says she believes Martinez did have cancer at one time, and that her sister was not doing well health wise. We could not reach any family members to confirm whether or not that was true.
The Logan County Sheriff's department told News 9 they just received this case on Monday and are investigating. It will be up to the DA there to determine if any child neglect charges will be filed.
We checked and both Martinez and Pierman have been in jail before. Police say both women were arrested together 3 separate times for shoplifting.
