A maintenance worker made a gruesome discovery at a southeast Oklahoma City apartment complex. Police say he found two dead bodies.
Bob Mills SkyNews 9 HD was above the scene near S.E. 44th and Sunnylane just after 11 a.m. Thursday as police were arriving.
Police and that maintenance worker found those bodies in Unit J in the middle of the Mosaic apartment complex on S.E. 46th Street east of Sunnylane. And the news came as a shock to neighbors.
"I heard choppers and police cars and stuff," said neighbor Victoria Baxley. "At first I thought it was a fire, so I didn't think anything of it."
But then word got out that two bodies were found inside a downstairs unit.
"It freaks you out, you don't feel safe. I practically live next door," said Baxley.
Oklahoma City police say they got a call from apartment management after home health care worker was not able to make contact with one of their patients.
Police confirm it was the body of a man and a woman. But right now they are not releasing any names, and are awaiting results from the medical examiner's office on the cause of death.
"At this point they (homicide investigators) didn't see anything suspicious in nature," said Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow with Oklahoma City police. "The medical examiner will ultimately make the cause of death determination."
We did speak with a neighbor who lives just across the breezeway from where the bodies were found. She says it was an elderly couple in their 70s who lived in that downstairs unit, and that one of them was blind.
At this point police are ruling out foul play. They tell us though it is unusual to have two dead bodies found at a scene and it not be considered a homicide, it does happen.
