One person was killed in a fiery crash involving two tanker trucks, just north of the town of Geary in Blaine County, Thursday afternoon.
Crews were called to the scene on state highway 270, just after noon. A witness in the area reported hearing an explosion at the same time of the accident.
Large black plumes of smoke could be seen billowing out of the burning wreckage of the tankers for miles. OHP closed both the north and southbound lanes of the highway while firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
Fire crews out of Greenfield, Geary, Calumet and Weatherford responded to the scene.
The wreck involved two tanker trucks, one hauling crude oil the other hauling citric acid. One driver was killed in the crash. The other escaped with minor injuries. Neither driver has been identified at this time.
A large amount of oil leaked from the vehicles and pooled on the shoulder area of the highway. There have been no reports of environmental hazards at this time.
The cause of the crash has not been determined at this time.
