Families React After Remains Found In Foss Lake

The Medical Examiner's office identified two of the six sets of human remains found inside two cars submerged in Foss Lake. The two cars were discovered last year after more than 40 years under water.

Six people, three in each car, were reported missing in two separate incidents. Three went missing in a 1953 Chevrolet in 1969. Three teenagers went missing in November 1970.

Friday, the ME’s office said one set of remains from each car was positively identified by using DNA matching.

Jimmy Williams was 16 years old when he went missing. He was last seen driving his Camaro. Two others were believed to be inside the car with him. His brother Gary told News 9 that Jimmy’s remains were still in the driver’s seat of the car.

The other man identified was Clebern Hammack.

Hammack's cousin, Cletus Hammack, says this is the final step of closure for his family.

“We knew that it was just you know to put the final stamp on it we needed DNA testing, so they took DNA from myself and my brother and uh, because our dads were brothers,” said Hammack. “So that's the best line to go with and it matched.”

While identification is still pending on the four others, there are still questions for some family members.

Williams says he will always wonder what caused Jimmy and the others to end up dead in the bottom of Foss Lake.

The Medical Examiner's office is waiting on DNA matches before officially identifying the remaining four people believed to be in the cars when they went missing.
