Authorities Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting In Cleveland County

The Criminal Investigations Division of the Norman Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Cleveland County, Saturday, after a suspicious vehicle call led police on a high-speed pursuit before ending with shots fired.

According to Norman police, officers responded to a report of a suspicious person and vehicle in the 2500 block of 169th Avenue N.E. just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Police say when the vehicle was found, a man fled and a pursuit began.

The pursuit ended near 192nd Avenue and E. Rock Creek, where the man failed to negotiate the T-intersection and crashed, according to authorities.

Police say two Norman officers and a Cleveland County deputy arrived on scene, and just after 1 p.m., the Norman officers radioed that shots had been fired.

Captain Tom Easley with the Norman Police Department says the preliminary investigation indicates no shots were fired by the deputy.

Police say the officers involved are in good condition, and the man was transported to OU Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the torso. Easley said preliminary medical reports indicate the man’s injury is not life-threatening.

Police say the Norman officers have been placed on administrative leave, and their identities will not be released for 72 hours.
