Dr. Phil's Childhood Friend Talks About The Good Old Days

As a kid, Dr. Phil once lived in The Village. We checked out his old neighborhood and caught up with one of his childhood friends.

"We both grew up in this neighborhood," said Joe Castillo, one of Dr. Phil's childhood friends.

Castillo recalls his friendship with Phil McGraw back in junior high.

"It was kind of like Mutt and Jeff, I was like 5'6" and he was like 6'2"," Castillo said.

Being the same age and living just across the street from each other in The Village, Castillo says the two became instant friends.

"Our families knew each other real well. I was over there. He was over here," he said. "His mom would always have the best iced tea. She'd have four or five different bottles of it."

Castillo also recalls spending time with McGraw at the nearby YMCA. He says seeing Dr. Phil on TV now just reminds him of the friend he once knew.

"He always paid close attention to people, always was real caring about that. It doesn't surprise me that he does what he does today," Castillo said.
