This comes after the delayed execution death of inmate Clayton Lockett in April.

The new protocol addressed multiple issues highlighted by the DOC director after Lockett's execution.

The document stated the staff must undergo training for multiple scenarios and create contingency plans for the following:
  • Issues with execution equipment or supplies
  • Issues with offender IV access, including obtaining alternate IV access site(s)
  • Issues if offender is not rendered unconscious after administration of execution chemicals
  • Unanticipated medical or other issues concerning the offender of an execution team member
  • Issues regarding order, security or facilities at OSP
Read the newly released execution protocol in its entirety.

The protocol also outlined how often teams will undergo training.

Prison officials will also give medical technicians an hour to put in the IV. The DOC director will then give the injection order.

The state will also administer five times the drug dose it gave Lockett.

And the execution chamber has been renovated.
