News 9 is learning more details about a deadly shootout in southeast Oklahoma City Wednesday.
We now know the identity of the officers involved as well as the suspects. Two officers were shot, and two officers fired shots during the incident. Three people have been arrested, two men, Shane Leon Rhea and Erik Patterson and a woman, Bonnie Boen.
Rhea is facing a slew of charges including murder, kidnapping, shooting with intent to kill, assault and battery with a deadly weapon and pointing a firearm.
Pieces are starting to come together in a chaotic gunfight that broke out Wednesday afternoon. It all started behind the door of a Plaza Inn motel room.
Police say a woman called for help, saying she was being held captive and thought someone was going to kill her, but when officers got to room 167, bullets started flying.
"As they approached the door and made their way to that location, they were met by gunfire coming from the room," Oklahoma City Police Capt. Dexter Nelson said. "Two of those officers were shot."
Those officers are 8-year veteran Sgt. Cody Koelsch and Sgt. Grant Brooks, who's been on the department for seven years. They took cover and another officer shot back.
"They [retreated] to an area of cover while Sgt. Clint Music returned fire, firing at a suspect inside the room," Nelson said.
Police said Randell Leon Williams, 57, was shot in the back in that room. Capt. Nelson said narcotics were located on Williams, but criminal charges are pending.
Cell phone video captured just moments after the incident shows where the initial gunfire went down just outside the room.
But that wasn't the last of it, as police say one of the suspects, Shane Leon Rhea, grabbed another woman from inside the room in a headlock and used her as a human shield as he fled through the parking lot, down the service road, into the trees and eventually back up to I-35 where he tried to hijack a getaway car from passing motorists.
Officers tried to intervene, but their efforts weren't enough, and Rhea shot and killed the woman.
"They confronted that suspect, and the suspect moved from the area of I-35 northbound lanes back down onto the service road," Nelson said. "Several officers were trying to take a position while they were trying to negotiate with the individual, and he refused statements by the officers to surrender. He fired killing the female."
That's when police say Sgt. Jeff Locke shot Rhea.
News 9 spoke with security at the hotel. There are two security guards, and the one on-duty at the time was on the opposite side of the complex. He said didn't see what happened, but said security cameras did and captured the entire thing.
Police have taken the surveillance video. They also believe drugs may have been involved.
Both officers who shot their guns are on routine administrative leave. Police say the two officers who were shot are going to be fine.
Rhea and Williams remain in the hospital in critical condition.
