Oklahomans To Weigh In On Plan To Improve Dangerous Highway

Residents are being asked to weigh in when it comes to a dangerous highway in the metro.

The road we're talking about is Highway 9 east of Norman between 72nd Avenue and 108th Avenue. And it's gotten a reputation as one of the most dangerous stretches of highway in the metro.

From January of 2010 to February 2012, Norman police said there were 22 crashes along that 2-mile stretch. Police said there were a total of three fatalities for all of Highway 9 during the same time period.

Tuesday night, the Department of Transportation will present a $13 million project to widen the highway. That's why they're holding a public meeting. They want to hear opinions on the project from local residents

The meeting will take place at the Little Axe Community Center on 168th Avenue Northeast at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

So far, the project has only been proposed. We'll let you know if ODOT decides to move forward with it.
