Price Of Gasoline Rising In Oklahoma

The cost of gasoline has risen across Oklahoma during the past week while prices elsewhere were dropping.

AAA Oklahoma said Tuesday that the average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gas in the state is $3.02 per gallon -- up from $2.92 per gallon a week ago.

AAA spokesman Chuck Mai says the increase is due to factors including a refinery near Amarillo, Texas, being out of operation and fuel demands of the harvest season leading to diesel replacing gas in some pipelines.

The national average is $3.03 per gallon -- down from $3.09 last week.

Prices in selected cities in Oklahoma range from $2.80 per gallon in Idabel to $3.26 in Altus. Drivers in Oklahoma City are paying $3.05 per gallon while the price in Tulsa averages $2.98.

The good news, Mai said, is that these supply problems should correct themselves in the next couple of weeks as Oklahoma's higher pump prices attract more product and the Amarillo refinery comes back on line.
