Preparations were underway in the city for possible icy conditions Sunday. Oklahoma City had crews ready to roll out to salt roads and bridges.

On Saturday night, the gates to the city's salt barn will open as several roads crews begin arriving, but they were not the only ones getting ready for snow, many Oklahomans were ramping up.

"It's very important because I don't want to run out of the necessities I need, and I don't want her to run out of food either," said shopper Andrea Blackaby, who stocked up on food for her for 22-month old daughter Arianna.

She was just one of many shoppers inside the Edmond Crest store loading their carts before any snow loads the roads.

"The older people have come in earlier when they first mentioned snow because they don't want to get out in the cold weather," said Crest operations manager Dale Brooks.

Whatever the weather brings, Oklahoma City officials said they're ready and have been since this summer.

"The crews run their routes and prepared for events like this weekend, we're prepared for any amount of snow, whether it be light or heavy," said Oklahoma City Public Works director Eric Wenger.

Edmond teacher Dianne Larson kept a full cart and said she was getting her Thanksgiving shopping out of the way.

"I don't want to leave the house tomorrow or Monday, it's going to be too cold and maybe the roads might be slick or icy, or maybe not, but I don't want to take that chance," Larson said.

It was the chance of snow that kept many ahead of the curve.

"I don't think I'm going to come back to the store,” Blackaby said.

“I'm going to stay in and cuddle up in a blanket with my daughter."

Wenger also said Oklahoma City road crews will be working from midnight until noon, and based on the snowy conditions, the city will decide if additional crews will be called in Sunday afternoon.
