The Oklahoma City Public Schools District has filed an injunction that would prevent Locust Grove from advancing in the playoffs. They were scheduled to play Heritage Hall in the State Semi-Finals Friday.
The Douglass Trojans scored a touchdown to take a 25-20 lead with a minute to play in Friday's playoff game, but the touchdown was disallowed because of the sideline penalty.
The touchdown was taken away, and Locust Grove went on to win the game 20-19 and advance to the state semifinals.
In an 8 to 3 vote by the OSSAA board Wednesday afternoon, it was decided that the result on the field will stick and no replay, not even the final minute of the game, will go forward. Locust Grove will go on to face Heritage Hall in the state 3A semi-final this Friday.
On Thursday, OKCPS officials filed a temporary injunction and/or a temporary restraining order. According to court documents, the school district requests that the Court enter a temporary restraining order prohibiting OSSAA from proceeding with the Class 3A semi-final round between Locust Grove and Heritage Hall, which is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. at Sapulpa High School.
The school district wants the Court to enter an order determining,
A. The OSSAA's denial of District's appeal was erroneous and that OSSAA's interpretation and application of its rules were not only unreasonable, but arbitrary and without basis.
B. That OSSAA be temporarily restrained and/or enjoined from holding any further contest as part of the secondary schools football championship until a ruling had been made by the Court on the district's petition, so as to avoid further injury to District.
C. That, on a final hearing, the last one minute and four seconds of the quarter final playoff game held on November 28 between Douglass and Locust Grove be replayed, or in the alternative, that the game be replayed in its entirety.
