The holiday shipping season kicked off on Sunday in the metro as the United States Postal Service (USPS) announced it will deliver packages seven days a week through Christmas day.

The USPS said this is in response to continued double-digit package volume growth.

If you want packages to be delivered by Christmas, the USPS released the following dates to use as mailing and shipping deadlines this year.

  • Dec. 10 – Priority Mail Express International
  • Dec. 15 – Standard Post
  • Dec. 17 – Global Express Guaranteed
  • Dec. 20 – First-Class Mail/Priority Mail (Domestic)
  • Dec. 23 – Priority Mail Express (Domestic)

As the USPS begins its seven-day delivery services, authorities warned residents about mail theft.

Norman Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit released tips regarding holiday gifts, since many will be ordered and shipped this time of the year. Authorities recommended requesting a signature confirmation of delivery, tracking the package online, insuring valuable items, encouraging neighbors to watch for deliveries and for strangers, having packages delivered at work, and requesting the package be delivered to a specific location at your address that is out of site.
