An Oklahoma City police chase ended with a suspect being shot in the head and killed. An investigation is underway and police said the claims of some the witnesses are being called into question.

A man came forward to News 9 Sunday night and said he was an eyewitness to the shooting, but police said not all of his claims are adding up.

“Several people who spoke on camera to the media, we actually had to pull some of that video and try to locate those individuals, because they did not come forward to us last night,” Oklahoma City Police Captain Paco Balderrama said.

One of those witnesses was Tyrell Bagby.

“He put his hands up, and when he put his hands up, they just started shooting. He started running to dodge the bullets, and they got him,” Bagby said. “I sat there, and I saw everything.”

After seeing Bagby's statements on News 9, detectives found him and talked to him firsthand.

“The information in the interview was inconsistent to what he said last night,” Badlerrama said. “So far the evidence that we have does no show what he's saying.”

While some information he provided News 9 was allegedly not adding up with what he told police, he said he does stand by his statement that Nowlin had his hands in the air when he was shot.

Police said it all started when Nowlin refused to pull over for a traffic stop at NE 28th Street and Laird Avenue and crashed his vehicle into the gate at the Heritage Point Apartments at NE 26th Street and Kelley Avenue.

He got out and tried to run, but police said he pulled out a gun, and that's when they fired.

Meanwhile police continued to track down and interview possible witnesses to conduct formal interviews and try to figure out exactly what happened.

“Some of the information that was put out last night was a little bit inconsistent with the information that we got today when we actually sat down and tried to get the information about what they actually saw,” Balderrama said.

Both officers involved have been placed on routine administrative leave.

Protesters have requested a permit from the city about the ordeal.
