Oklahoma County Jail Nurse Arrested For Drug Crimes

An Oklahoma County Jail nurse, who was named "employee of the month" is arrested for drug crimes.

Drug agents searched her home and found prescription medications that did not belong to her as well as marijuana.

32-year-old Candice Deann Carter was a nurse at the jail and had access to prescription medications.

But investigators have yet to determine if Candice was taking drugs from the jail.

According to the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, this all came to light after an apparent disgruntled spouse blew the whistle on his girlfriend, Candice Carter.

“It's not uncommon for us to get drug related tips or other criminal tips to police from a disgruntled boyfriend or girlfriend,” said OBN Spokesperson, Mark Woodward.

Court documents reveal, a former "boyfriend" was cleaning the bathroom the two shared and found used syringes, a specimen cup filled with what appeared to be urine, and vials of hydromorphone and morphine.

“That certainly is concerning that somebody with drug related issues would be in the position to have access to them,” said Woodward.

The boyfriend also told OBN agents a few days prior a package of synthetic urine was found next to Carter's "Employee of the Month" parking pass from the county jail.

At this point though, OBN investigators cannot say exactly where the drugs came from or what she was doing with them.

“And also were they just using them, or were they selling them. That's something that we're going to continue to investigate,” said Woodward.

Candice's ex also told OBN Agents she was fired as a nurse at Mercy Hospital in Ft. Smith, Arkansas for stealing drugs.

The jail nurse only admitted to giving a cigarette to an inmate. Which lead to a misdemeanor complaint of conspiracy to commit a crime of possession of contraband.

Candice was hired and recently fired from an out of state contractor service. She was not employed through the county.

News 9 was told additional complaints are possible as the investigation continues.
