Three people were killed after a head-on crash on State Highway 9 in Norman, Wednesday afternoon.
First responders were first called out to the scene just after 1 p.m. on highway 9, near 120th Ave. SE, just south of Lake Thunderbird.
Just after 3 p.m., authorities confirmed that three people, two male drivers and one female passenger, had died in the crash.
The two men were pronounced dead at the scene. The female passenger was transported from the scene in very critical condition before succumbing to her injuries at a local hospital. All of the victims in this crash are adults. Their identities have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities say a Chevy Malibu was heading eastbound on the highway and a Chevy Silverado was heading westbound when one of the vehicles crossed the center line and struck the other. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) and Norman Police shut down the highway for about a mile in both directions while crews work the scene. The highway is expected to remain closed for up to three or four hours.
