OKC Energy FC has signed defender Michael Harris, General Manager Jason Hawkins announced today. Harris played at the University of Washington.
“Michael is a hard-working, athletic player,” said Energy FC Head Coach Jimmy Nielsen. “He played fullback and center midfield for them. We look forward to having him here.”
Harris earned All-Pac 12 second team honors as a senior in 2013. He started 21-of-22 matches for the Huskies and had two goals and 10 assists as he captained the team. Washington's defense held opponents to 19 goals his junior season. He scored his first career goal as a sophomore and started eight matches as a freshman in 2010.
“I am excited to play for a growing club that had an exciting first year,” Harris said. “I'm looking forward to competing for the USL PRO title, playing with experienced teammates, a veteran coach and for the fans and community of Oklahoma City. I am grateful for this opportunity and cannot wait for the season to begin.”
The Seattle native prepped at Shorecrest (Washington) High School and played club soccer for the Snohomish United. He was named 3A All-State first team and Seattle Times All-Area team in 2010 and 2009. He also earned Washington Class 3A State Player of the Year honors in 2009 and was named an adidas NSCAA High School All-American that same year.
