The man accused of beheading one woman and attempting to behead another at Vaughan Foods in 2014 has filed for a competency hearing.
Alton Nolen is facing three felony charges including murder, assault and battery with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon for the attack that killed 54-year-old Colleen Hufford and injured 43-year-old Traci Johnson at Vaughan Food in late September 2014.
The hearing is meant to determine whether Nolen has the legal capacity to understand the charges against him and can cooperate with a lawyer in preparing a defense.
Because of the competency hearing, Nolen's preliminary court date, originally set for Aug. 8, has been continued.
